Red Mahogany
Eucalyptus resinifera
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)
An large, evergreen tree growing to 45 metres (150 ft) with an erect, branching trunk with persistent, red-brown stringy-type bark. A well known Koala food tree, it grows on the eastern coastal plain from Jervis Bay in New South Wales into the tropics of North Queensland on deeper soils of medium to high fertility.
The leaves are thinly lanceolate, dark green, glossy, discolorous (upper and lower surfaces differing in colour) and are 9-16 cm long, 2-4 cm in width and sharply pointed. Flowers are off-white in groups on 7 – 11 and appear in summer. Fruits are a hard capsule with four very strongly exserted valves.
Offered is a packet of 200 seeds (includes chaff) with propagation notes. Buyers should read the disclaimer below.
DISCLAIMER.
All Eucalyptus/Corymbia seed is harvested from the wild under licence and is sold as a combination of fertilised/unfertilised (chaff) seed. In many cases, it is not possible to tell the difference. The ratio of fertilised seed varies greatly and depends wholly on weather conditions prior to seed set. Standard industry practice is to offer 200 seeds per packet which translate to something like 10 to 30 viable seeds (which have not been counted). If the above is not acceptable to you, please do not purchase any of the above seeds.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
