This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List
A native annual from West Australia and South Australia south of a line from Shark Bay to Ceduna. Needless to say, it has a conservation status of ‘Not Threatened’.
It prefers light to medium soils in an open, sunny position and is drought tolerant but dislikes frost. Growing to a height of 0.6 metres (24in) with a spread of 0.5 metres (20in); the stem is soft and dainty, the leaves light green, narrow, smooth and 2.5cm long; the flowers are pink or white, solitary, papery and 2.5cm across appearing in winter and spring.
This plant has been popular with gardeners for many years because of its very colourful display, especially in massed plantings. It is suited to most temperate areas and is known to self-seed from previous plantings but is not invasive. It makes a very good cut or dried flower.
This plant grows readily from seed.
